Odoo Online is Odoo S.A.’s hosted Enterprise SaaS with no custom server modules. Community cloud keeps LGPL licensing and addon freedom at the cost of choosing who runs the platform.
Three Community cloud patterns
The direct answer: Community in the cloud usually means (1) a self-managed VPS or IaaS instance, (2) a managed private cloud where an independent provider runs Odoo for you, or (3) container platforms you operate. Odoo Online is a fourth category — official SaaS — but it is not Community and does not allow arbitrary Python addons.
Odoo’s documentation states that Odoo Online is incompatible with custom modules. If your roadmap needs server-side code, plan for Community or Enterprise on infrastructure you control or outsource.
Maximum control, full operational load
