RENEWAL

Why your Odoo renewal price went up.

The price you signed up on was a twelve-month introductory rate. It applied to the users you ordered at the start, and only for the first year. At renewal you move to standard list — roughly 25% higher. If you've also added users, they were probably never on the promotional rate at all. And from April 2026 there's a further surcharge for running an older version.

None of this is hidden. All of it is easy to miss when you're comparing an advertised number against a competitor's advertised number.

Three increases

The three increases, separately

1. The promotional period ended

US list, August 2026, billed annually:

Comparison
PlanAdvertised (year 1)Renewal
Standard~$24.90/user/mo~$31.10/user/mo
Custom~$49.00/user/mo~$61.00/user/mo

For 25 people on Standard that's roughly $7,470 in year one and $9,330 from year two. Same system, same users, about $1,860 more.

The introductory rate applies to the users you initially ordered. Users added later typically join at standard rate, which is why a growing business often sees the increase arrive earlier and messier than expected.

2. Billing frequency

Paying monthly instead of annually adds roughly 20–25% on top. If you switched to monthly at some point for cash-flow reasons, that's a second increase stacked on the first.

3. The version surcharge

Verify before publishing

Verify against Odoo's subscription agreement before treating as settled.

Odoo introduced long-term support across Enterprise versions, and alongside it a reported 25% additional fee on the annual subscription, from April 2026, for customers running versions more than three releases behind.

The logic is coherent from Odoo's side — supporting old versions costs them, so they price it. The effect on customers is less comfortable: staying on an old version because upgrading is disruptive and expensive now also costs more in subscription. And the reason most businesses are stuck on an old version is custom modules that would need rewriting, which is a bill they were avoiding. See what an Odoo upgrade costs.

Audit

Work out what you should actually be paying

Five minutes, and worth doing before you renew rather than after.

  1. Find your renewal invoice and divide by users and months. That's your real per-user rate.
  2. Compare it to odoo.com/pricing for your country today. Odoo prices by region, so don't use a figure from a US blog. Odoo pricing by country explains the spread; for EU/UK rates see Odoo pricing across Europe.
  3. Check your plan. Are you on Custom? If so, are you using Studio, multi-company or the external API? If not, Standard may be roughly half the price.
  4. Check your user count. Deactivated staff sometimes remain billable internal users. Portal users are free; internal users are not.
  5. Check billing frequency. Annual is materially cheaper than monthly.
  6. Check your version. If you're more than three releases behind, factor the surcharge in — and price the upgrade against it.

Steps 3 and 4 recover money for a meaningful share of people who do them.

Options

What to do about it

Negotiate

You have more room at renewal than at signup, and more still if you're adding users. Ask specifically about multi-year terms and about the rate applied to new users. The worst outcome is no.

Right-size the plan

Custom exists for Studio, multi-company and external API access. If you're on it for one of those and could live without it, the gap is roughly $30 per user per month. If you're on it only for the API, Odoo external API access covers the alternatives — including that Community has the API with no gate at all.

Audit users

Internal users are the billable unit. Contractors who finished, staff who left, duplicate accounts, and people who could be portal users instead all cost the full rate until someone looks.

Reconsider the model

The increases above share a structure: your software bill is tied to headcount and repriced by someone else on their schedule. That's the model, not a fault in it — but it's worth knowing there are others. Odoo Community vs Enterprise has the honest comparison, including what Community genuinely costs you.

Odin

What a flat fee looks like instead

We host standard Odoo Community at $150/month for up to 25 people or $450/month for unlimited people. Every module we've built is included. Backups, security patches and version upgrades are ours to run — which also means the version surcharge problem doesn't arise, because you don't fall behind.

No promotional rate that expires. No per-seat increase when you hire. Your server and your data are yours: download the database and go, no exit fee.

The honest caveat: this is Community, so no Odoo Studio, no official Odoo SA support contract, and the Enterprise-only apps aren't there. If you need Field Service or the full accounting suite, pay Odoo — the renewal increase is the price of a product you're genuinely using.

Questions

FAQ

Why did my Odoo subscription price increase at renewal?

The advertised rate is a twelve-month introductory price applying to the users you initially ordered. At renewal you move to standard list, roughly 25% higher.

How much does Odoo increase after the first year?

About 25% in US terms — Standard from roughly $24.90 to $31.10 per user per month, Custom from about $49 to $61.

Do new users get the promotional price?

Generally no. The introductory rate applies to the users ordered at signup, so users added during the year typically join at standard rate.

Is Odoo charging more for old versions?

Reportedly yes — a 25% surcharge from April 2026 on subscriptions running versions more than three releases behind, introduced alongside long-term support. Confirm your position with Odoo directly.

Can I negotiate my Odoo renewal?

It's worth asking, particularly around multi-year terms and the rate applied to added users. Renewal is when you have the most leverage.

How do I lower my Odoo bill without leaving?

Audit internal users, check whether you need the Custom plan, and switch from monthly to annual billing. Those three cover most avoidable spend.

Is monthly billing more expensive?

Yes, by roughly 20–25% against the annual rate.

A price that doesn't have a renewal date.

$150/month up to 25 people. $450/month unlimited.
