Different jobs

An in-app assistant still runs as an Odoo user. So does MCP. The difference is the blast radius of a confused agent with write tools in a chat product your staff already over-trusts. Read-only default.

Buying both
A company can use Odoo AI for people in the ERP and MCP for people in Claude. Budget them separately. Do not subtract one from the other in a vendor bake-off unless the users actually overlap.
If leadership wants “AI” as a single line, split the slide: in-app versus external agents. Otherwise you will implement neither well.
Studio AI is not MCP
Generating a view with AI is a build-time act. MCP is run-time access to live records. Mixing them in a security review wastes an hour. AI module builder is a different product conversation.
